BARNET AND DISTRICT Athletic Club’s Veterans opened their summer league campaign at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre on Monday evening.
The Southern Counties Veterans League is a competitive event for over 35s which covers the whole of the south of England in regional divisions, with the top teams competing in a final in September.
In unseasonably chilly conditions the women’s team finished second, while a depleted men’s team came sixth.
Lisa Webb won the women’s 35 1,500metres in 5minutes 28.0seconds, while Sarah Boxer triumphed in the women’s 40 race in 6mins 2.0secs.
However, it was Mary Brown who was the star performer as she won the women’s 50 400m (1min 14.7secs) and finished runner-up in the 100m (15.0secs).
Meanwhile, Saturday saw Alex Lepretre come second in the 5,000m in the Middlesex Championships at Lee Valley, clocking a time of 15mins 29.32secs.
Sunday saw a small team from the club take part in the Hertfordshire Championships in Watford, with Keisha Murdock winning her first county title as she took the girls’ under-15 hammer in a personal best 19.81in addition to coming fourth in the shot (6.99m).
