Trio to leave Barnet after not being offered new contracts

By Dominique Stafford in Football

BARNET Football Club have announced that James Pearson, Michael Gash and Shaun Batt will all be leaving in the summer after not being offered contracts for next season.

Striker Gash joined the Bees from Kidderminster Harriers in January 2015, helping the team to secure promotion to the Football League that season as he scored three times in 15 appearances.

Gash then formed an integral part of the Barnet side in their first campaign back in the Football League, and a fantastic run of form during September – which saw him score four goals in five games – led to him being named the League Two Player of the Month.

He made 33 appearances in total during that season, but his 2016/17 campaign came to a premature end after just two weeks as he picked up a cruciate knee injury from which he has yet to fully recover.

In a statement on his Twitter page, Gash said: “I am disappointed, gutted and surprised to be leaving the club in the coming weeks.

“It comes at a difficult time as I am not far off full recovery after my ACL injury and was looking forward to putting the shirt back on. The injury early on in the season was a massive blow for me and I’m gutted I’ve missed out on the chance to help the team push forward.

“I would like to thank all Barnet players and staff past and present as I have experienced some of my best moments in my career in the past two and a half years.

“A last thank you is to the fans. They have been nothing more than supportive and brilliant to me since I arrived at the club. To hear many positive comments towards me at home games over the last seven months is very humbling and I am very appreciative of them all. I wish the club, players, staff and fans all the best in the future.”

Fellow forward Batt joined Barnet in the summer of 2015 after leaving Leyton Orient, but has struggled to establish himself in an injury-disrupted two years at the Hive – scoring just once in 27 appearances.

Right-back Pearson joined Barnet in January last year and made 15 appearances before the end of the 2015/16 campaign. However, a knee injury ruled him out the start of this season and he has yet to feature during the current campaign.

A statement on the club’s official website said: “We would like to thank all three for their contributions to the football club and wish them all the very best for their future careers.”
