BARNET AND DISTRICT Athletics Club began their Southern League campaign in highly encouraging fashion at Finsbury Park on Saturday.
The combined men’s and women’s team enjoyed a fourth-placed finish in the Division Three North fixture – higher than they managed in any of last season’s meeting.
The team was a mixture of youth and experience, with Shayna Godin taking part in her first Southern League fixture, while 67-year-old Pat Reynolds competed in multiple events.
The best results on the day at A-string level saw Will Morris finish runner-up on his debut in the 2,000metres steeplechase (7minutes 33.19secsonds) and the 400m hurdles (1min 20.43secs), while Alex Lepretre came second in the 5,000m (15mins 48.39secs).
There were victories at B-string level from Godin in the women’s 2,000m steeplechase (11mins 24.90secs), Ed Price in the 5,000m (16mins 39.25secs), Steve Norris in the 400m hurdles (1min 59.88secs) and Darren White in the 2,000m steeplechase (8mins 8.43secs).
