Students help wildlife to make burrows at The Burroughs

By Dave Speck in Local People

Great spotted woodpecker, mistle thrush and coal tit are among species of bird to be found on the campus of Middlesex Univerity at Hendon.

And students have teamed up with the London Wildlife Trust (LWT) to encourage more wild creatures to build their homes on The Burroughs campus.

Part of the work involves building log piles and planting holly and hazel hedgerows to help attract invertebrates, birds and amphibians.

A spokeswoman for LWT said: “Green spaces get fragmented in an urban environment, but this work is helping to connect those segments.

“We also wants to encourage students with access to gardens to do their bit for wildlife off campus too by building their own log piles and putting up bird boxes.”
